Where I'm Coming From is the twelfth studio album by Stevie Wonder, released on April 12, 1971. It is the first album on which Wonder is credited as sole producer, marking a milestone in his artistic independence within Motown.
The album includes the singles 'If You Really Love Me' and 'Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer'. 'If You Really Love Me' reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 4 on the R&B chart. The lyrics were written by his then-wife Syreeta Wright, with music by Wonder.
Although the album peaked at number 62 on the Billboard 200, it was a crucial turning point. Wonder turned 21 during the sessions, which allowed him to break free from his previous contract and negotiate a new deal with Motown that granted him greater creative control and publishing rights.
