Next to You is Tammy Wynette's twentieth studio album, released in 1989 under Epic Records. It was produced by Steve Buckingham, who also worked with artists such as Dolly Parton and Ricky Skaggs. The album marked a partial return to Wynette's traditional country roots, albeit with a polished late-1980s sound.
The lead single, «Next to You», peaked at number 23 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, while the second single, «I'm Not That Good at Goodbye», reached number 46. Although the album did not replicate the massive success of her earlier work, it was well received by critics and showcased Wynette's vocal maturity.
The album includes a cover of «Let's Call It a Day Today», a song written by British composer Mike Reid. The album cover features Wynette in a white dress against a blue background, reflecting an elegant and understated style. Next to You was Wynette's last studio album for Epic Records before her brief retirement in the early 1990s.
