Magpie and the Dandelion is the eighth studio album by The Avett Brothers, released on October 15, 2013. It was produced by Rick Rubin and recorded at Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville, Tennessee.
The album was conceived during the same recording sessions as its predecessor, The Carpenter (2012). It includes songs that did not make that album but were considered strong enough for a separate release.
The title comes from a metaphor about life's duality: the magpie represents cunning and the dandelion fragility. The album debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200 and received generally positive reviews.
