Still Cruisin' was released in 1989 as The Beach Boys' first album of the 1980s after a long hiatus. The album emerged at a time when the band sought to revitalize their career, combining new songs with re-recorded versions of old hits. Critical reception was mixed, with some praising Brian Wilson's return as a producer, but others criticizing the lack of cohesion. Commercially, it had moderate success, peaking at number 46 on the Billboard 200.

The album's sound blends the band's signature pop rock with late-80s synth-pop influences. Notable tracks include the title track 'Still Cruisin'', used in the film 'Cocoon: The Return', and 'Somewhere Near Japan', showcasing classic vocal harmonies. It also includes a re-recorded version of 'Kokomo', which had been a major hit in 1988. Production was handled by several collaborators, resulting in a somewhat scattered style.

Although Still Cruisin' is not considered one of the band's best works, it marked a turning point by reuniting Brian Wilson with the group after years of estrangement. The album helped keep The Beach Boys relevant in late-80s pop culture. However, its legacy is minor compared to their classic 60s output. Today it is remembered mainly for its title track and as an attempt to transition into the following decade.
