Together is the ninth studio album by The Temptations, released in June 1969 on the Gordy label. Produced again by Norman Whitfield, the album represents the consolidation of the group's psychedelic sound, with more socially conscious lyrics and innovative arrangements that included the use of synthesizers and studio effects.
The album contains the hit single 'Cloud Nine', which won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Group in 1969 and reached number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other notable songs include 'Run Away Child, Running Wild', a suite over nine minutes long showcasing the group's experimentation, and 'I Need Your Lovin''.
Together was a commercial and critical success, peaking at number 28 on the Billboard 200 chart and number 2 on the R&B albums chart. It is considered a landmark album in the transition from classic soul to funk and psychedelic soul, and marked the beginning of the collaboration with composer and arranger Dennis Coffey.
