The album 'Wings of Love' was released on March 16, 1976, by the Gordy label. It was the first album by The Temptations without the production of Norman Whitfield, being produced by Jeffrey Bowen. The record continued the trend towards a softer, more sophisticated sound, with influences of soul and pop, although it did not achieve the same commercial impact as its predecessors.

The album includes the single 'Sweet Gypsy Jane', which reached number 88 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 20 on the Hot Soul Singles chart. Other notable songs are 'Wings of Love' and 'Mary Ann', the latter a cover of a 1950s tune. The album also features a collaboration with soul singer Syreeta on the song 'I'm a Bachelor'.

The lineup of The Temptations on this album was the same as on 'A Song for You': Dennis Edwards, Melvin Franklin, Richard Street, Damon Harris, and Glenn Leonard. Despite not generating major hits, the album peaked at number 29 on the Billboard 200 and number 7 on the Top Soul Albums chart.
