Wish It Would Rain is the eighth studio album by The Temptations, released on December 17, 1968, on the Gordy label, a subsidiary of Motown. It was produced by Norman Whitfield, who began moving the group away from traditional pop sounds toward a more psychedelic and soul style influenced by counterculture.
The album includes the hit title track 'I Wish It Would Rain', which reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the R&B chart. Other notable songs include 'I Truly, Truly Believe' and 'I Could Never Love Another (After Loving You)', the latter also released as a single and featuring a more psychedelic soul sound.
The record reflects the group's transition toward a more experimental sound, with orchestral arrangements and complex harmonies. Although not as acclaimed as their earlier work, it marked an important step in The Temptations' artistic evolution under Whitfield's direction.
