Wildflowers is Tom Petty's second solo album, though it was released under his name and featured the Heartbreakers. The album was produced by Rick Rubin, who encouraged a more organic and minimalist sound, moving away from the arena rock of previous works.
The album includes hits such as 'You Don't Know How It Feels', 'It's Good to Be King', and 'Wildflowers'. It was a commercial and critical success, peaking at number 8 on the Billboard 200 and achieving multiple platinum certifications. Petty considered this album his masterpiece.
Originally, Petty conceived Wildflowers as a double album, but Warner Bros. reduced it to a single disc. The remaining songs were posthumously released in 2020 on the collection 'Wildflowers & All the Rest'.
