Tony Bennett released 'The Playground' in 1998, a concept album aimed at children and family audiences. The record includes classic children's songs and adapted standards, with orchestral arrangements by Ralph Sharon and other collaborators.
The album was produced by Danny Bennett (Tony's son) and Phil Ramone, and featured children's singer Rosie O'Donnell on the track 'Put on a Happy Face'. Recording took place in New York and Los Angeles studios between 1997 and 1998.
Although not one of Bennett's most commercial albums, 'The Playground' received positive reviews for its warm and educational approach, and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Musical Album for Children in 1999.
