Love of the Common People is the fourth studio album by Waylon Jennings, released in 1967 by RCA Victor. It was produced by Chet Atkins, a key figure in the Nashville sound of the era. The album shows Jennings exploring a more polished and commercial style, while maintaining his country identity.
The album includes the title track 'Love of the Common People', originally recorded by The Everly Brothers, as well as covers of songs by Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and others. Jennings also contributed his own compositions, such as 'The Chokin' Kind' and 'You've Got to Hide Your Love Away' (an adaptation of The Beatles).
Although not a major commercial success at the time, the album is valued by critics as a step in Jennings' artistic evolution, prior to his consolidation as a figure of the outlaw country movement. It reached number 14 on the Billboard country albums chart.
