Only the Greatest is a compilation album by Waylon Jennings, released in 1968 on RCA Victor. It was produced by Chet Atkins and compiles songs recorded between 1965 and 1968, during Jennings' early years on the label. The album was designed to capitalize on his growing popularity in the country scene.
The collection includes his early hits such as "Love of the Common People" (number 14 in 1967), "The Chokin' Kind" (number 9 in 1967), and "Walk On Out of My Mind" (number 14 in 1968). It also features covers of classics like "Mental Revenge" and "Just to Satisfy You", the latter co-written by Jennings and Don Bowman.
Although a compilation, Only the Greatest is significant for documenting Jennings' evolution from a polished Nashville singer to an artist beginning to forge his own style, known as "outlaw country". The album reached number 12 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.
