The album was recorded during 2003 at various studios in the United States, including The Record Plant in Los Angeles and Right Track Recording in New York.
The album debuted at number 49 on the Billboard 200 chart and reached number 20 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It includes covers of Christmas classics such as 'The First Noel' and 'Joy to the World', as well as original songs like 'One Wish (for Christmas)', co-written by Gordon Chambers and produced by Mervyn Warren.
Despite mixed reviews, the album was certified gold by the RIAA in 2004 for selling over 500,000 copies in the United States. It is the only Christmas album released by Houston during her lifetime, and it was dedicated to her daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown.
