Country Willie His Own Songs is Willie Nelson's debut studio album, released in 1965 by RCA Victor. It was produced by the legendary Chet Atkins, who aimed to polish Nelson's sound for the country mainstream, although the singer preferred a rawer style.
The album consists mainly of Nelson's original compositions, many of which had already been recorded by other artists, such as "Hello Walls" (popularized by Faron Young) and "Funny How Time Slips Away" (recorded by Billy Walker). The song "Night Life" became a genre classic.
Despite the quality of the songs, the record did not achieve major commercial success at the time, but over the years it has been reappraised as a foundational early work showcasing Nelson's songwriting talent before his consolidation as a country icon.
