The Willie Way is the seventeenth studio album by Willie Nelson, released in 1972 on RCA Victor. Produced again by Felton Jarvis, the album continues Nelson's exploration of a more intimate and personal sound, though still within the framework of traditional Nashville country.
The album includes original songs by Nelson such as "The Willie Way" and covers of songs by other writers, like "Always on My Mind" (though this version did not achieve the fame of his later 1982 recording). Also notable is "One Day at a Time", which would become a hit for other artists. The album reached number 34 on the Billboard country albums chart.
Recorded at RCA Studios in Nashville, the album reflects Nelson's struggle to find his artistic identity at a time when he was beginning to distance himself from the Nashville scene. Although not one of his most remembered works, "The Willie Way" is a testament to his evolution as an artist before his major breakthrough with "Shotgun Willie" (1973).
