Don't Knock My Love was released in 1971 by Atlantic Records. The album represents a transition towards a more funk and Southern soul sound, moving away from the Memphis soul of his earlier work.
Produced by Wilson Pickett himself along with Dave Crawford and Brad Shapiro, the record was recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama. It includes the hit title track which reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The album featured session musicians from Muscle Shoals, including members of The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. Although not one of his biggest commercial successes, it solidified his reputation in the 1970s.
