Pickett in the Pocket was Wilson Pickett's eleventh studio album, released in 1974 on RCA Victor. Recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama, the album marked a shift toward a more funk and contemporary soul sound, moving away from the rawer style of his earlier Atlantic Records work.
The album was produced by Brad Shapiro and Dave Crawford, who also contributed as songwriters. Although it did not generate major pop chart hits, songs like "Take a Closer Look at the Woman in You" and "Soft Soul Boogie Woogie" received some airplay on soul and R&B stations.
Pickett in the Pocket did not achieve the commercial success of his previous albums, but it is considered by some critics as a solid effort in his RCA period. The cover shows Pickett in a relaxed pose, reflecting the album's title.
