The album was released in 2019 by Blue Engine Records, the label of Jazz at Lincoln Center. It stems from the collaboration between Wynton Marsalis and painter George Condo, who created the cover art and was inspired by the music for his works.
Marsalis composed the pieces as a direct response to Condo's paintings, exploring the relationship between visual art and jazz. The record features his usual quintet and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
The recording took place at the Jazz at Lincoln Center studios in New York. The album was presented alongside a simultaneous exhibition of Condo's paintings at the cultural center.
